Hi! I'm Rena, and I'm the owner of Phoenix Mental Health Services. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor and have spent more than a decade working with adults, teens and kiddos through trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, major life transitions, and all the things in between that doesn't always fit neatly into a diagnostic box.

I specialize in trauma therapy, and my approach is warm, direct, collaborative, and very human. I'm not the kind of person who will sit across from you and give robotic answers. We can talk about what's tough, but we're also going to figure out what to do with it.

I believe some of the best therapy happens when you finally feel safe enough to stop filtering yourself. You don't need to have the right words, clean up your language, apologize for feeling, or pretend you're doing better than you are. There's room here for the really hard stuff, humor, sarcasm, swearing, awkwardness, and whatever else comes through the door with you.

My work is trauma-informed and evidence-based, with a particular focus on understanding how our experiences shape the way we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. I'm trained in EMDR and incorporate different approaches depending on what actually makes sense for the person sitting in front of me. Therapy isn't one-size-fits-all, and I don't believe you should have to fit yourself into a particular therapy model just because it's the one your therapist happens to use.

When I'm not working, I'm usually with my husband, 2 kids, and my 2 dogs! I love listening to 90's early 2000's hop music, watching true crime documentaries, or completely absorbing myself in a thriller book while convincing myself I figured out the ending way before I actually did. I appreciate sarcasm, sense of humor, real conversations, and people who aren't afraid to be a little weird. Life is hard enough. We don't have to take ourselves seriously every second of it.

Evidence-Based Practices I'm trained in and often use include:

  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Client-Centered Therapy
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Flash Therapy
  • Trauma-informed and somatic-based interventions
